Fabric recommendations: Light weight wovens such as linen, chambray, seersucker, cotton lawn, cotton poplin, tencel and indian handlooms. Avoid linen that is too heavy as with the gathers this could be too weighty. 

You will also need:

Matching thread.
25-29cm/10-11½" x 4cm/1½" wide elastic.
0.6M/¾yd interfacing.
