Quilt Basics: Ohio Star

Entry Level: Improving Beginner. You will need to be fairly confident using a sewing machine and have a couple of projects under your belt. Some patchwork/ quilting experience is helpful but not required.
Materials: Not Included: Students will need to bring fabric and thread from home or buy from the shop. Please see materials list below.

The Ohio Star is a classic, nine-patch quilt block made with five plain squares and four quarter-square triangle units. Students will be talked through the construction of the block, and will be able to cut and sew one up during the class. Guidance will be given to then replicate this block at home to create a quilt top of approximately 48" square.

In this class we will use a rotary cutter and ruler, along with the sewing machine, to create half square triangles. We will then use these half square triangles to make quarter square triangles, and move on to creating the block.

Class Materials and Equipment
Materials are not included and you will need to bring the following with you:

Machine: You will have your own working sewing machine to bring with you. We do have a limited number of shop machines that can be borrowed. These need to be booked in advance. 
Quilting cotton: 4 fat quarters of different quilting cottons - plain or printed. 
Thread: Thread suitable for piecing. We recommend Aurifil 50wt
If you would like to buy these items from the shop we would love to help you choose although you may want to pop in before the day of the class as choosing fabric can take some time!!
