Quilt Technique: Scrap Busting Quilt

Entry Level: You will need to have completed one of our ‘Sewing Machine Basics’ courses or have similar experience with a machine. This means you must be able to thread the machine on your own, wind a bobbin, and go forwards and backwards with straight stitch.

People often ask what they can do with fabric scraps. Whatever your sewing preference, we all end up with lots of scraps which are far too good to waste.
In this class you will learn 3 different techniques including machine piecing and machine paper piecing to turn scraps into useable blocks that could then be made into placemats, bags, cushions, entire quilts or more. You will discover ways to use scraps of different sizes and shapes, from as small as 1 inch.

Class Materials and Equipment
Materials for this class are not included in the price. You will need to bring the following:
Machine: You need a working sewing machine to bring with you (bring the manual too if you have one). We do have a limited number of shop machines that can be borrowed. These need to be booked in advance.
Fabric: A selection of scraps in a variety of sizes. No stretch fabrics please. A couple of larger pieces of fabric and some offcuts of quilt wadding (approx 10 x 10cm), if you have selvedges saved you can bring those too!
Thread: Thread suitable for piecing. We recommend Aurifil 50wt
Haberdashery: You may find it useful to bring your own scissors, tape measure, pins and chalk, although we will have these to borrow, and please do bring a notepad and pen.
