Quilt Basics: Finish Your Quilt: Baste, Quilt & Bind

Class Length: 3.5 hours

Entry Level: You will need to have completed one of our ‘Sewing Machine Basics’ courses or have similar experience with a machine. This means you must be able to thread the machine on your own, wind a bobbin, and go forwards and backwards with straight stitch.
Materials: Not Included: Students will need to bring fabric and thread from home or buy from the shop. Please see materials list.

With this great intro to finishing your quilt you will learn the principles of creating your quilt sandwich, quilting using a walking foot and (non-bias) binding. You will leave the class with a table mat and the knowledge to scale up and finish your own quilt.

This class is great for those students who have created a quilt top and want to learn how to finish.

All our classes are non-refundable and non-transferable. We urge you to carefully check your diary prior to booking to ensure that you can attend. We also need three students enrolled on the class otherwise it is subject to cancellation. By purchasing this class you are agreeing to our full class policy.

Class Materials and Equipment
Materials are not included in the price. Please see list of materials below. It is your responsibility to prepare your materials so that you are ready to learn when the class starts. You may want to come into the shop in the days before the class and our staff will help you get together everything that you will need. Please be aware that you may not wish to purchase class materials until the minimum class number of three students has been reached.

Machine: You ideally will have your own working sewing machine to bring with you (bring the manual too if you have one). We do have a limited number of shop machines that can be borrowed. These need to be booked in advance. 
Fabric: 3 x 12” squares of quilting cotton, plain or printed, for the front, the back, and the binding of your table mat (3 x fat quarters will work well)
Wadding: 1 x 12” square of wadding.  Double layer if you like. Insulated if you like!
Thread: 1 x reel of cotton thread.  We recommend 40wt Aurifil cotton.  This will be used for attaching your binding and for your quilting.
Haberdashery: You may find it useful to bring your own scissors, tape measure, pins and chalk, although we will have these to borrow.
