Delivery
We will despatch your order on or before the next working day (Monday – Friday) following receiving payment.
Our standard UK delivery is via Royal Mail First Class. Royal Mail aims to deliver First Class items the next working day, including Saturday, but it can take up to 15 working days. Sometimes if your order is large or heavy we will use a courier to delivery your package.
We have a graded fee system for postage. These fees are as follows:
- UK First Class: Orders under £60 are £2.95, orders over £60 are free
- Europe Tracked Airmail: Orders under £20 cost £12, orders between £20 and £50 cost £15, orders over £50 cost £18
- USA Tracked Airmail: Orders under £20 cost £12, orders between £20 and £50 cost £18, orders over £50 cost £29
- Rest of World Tracked Airmail: Orders under £20 cost £12, orders between £20 and £50 cost £17, orders over £50 cost £23
Very occasionally we may not be able to ship your order due to the size and weight of the items, for instance if the order contains large volumes of a heavy fabric. This is unusual, and in the event of this occuring, we will contact you swiftly with alternative postage options, or the option to cancel your order. This almost never happens with UK orders and only very occasionally with overseas orders. We ask you to be understanding about this.
Please be aware that your country may apply additional import taxes and duties. You are responsible for paying these at point of import.
Click and Collect
We have a collection service for online orders. You need to order online and select the collection option at checkout. Generally your order will be ready almost immediately and can be collected during our published opening hours. You will not be emailed to say that it is ready and the worst case would be having to wait a couple of minutes whilst we put it together for you.
Returns
We are not able to offer returns on cut goods: fabric; ribbon; trim. Samples are available free prior to purchase.
We are not able to offer refunds on downloadable products.
We accept returns of sewing patterns, haberdashery and kits in their original sale condition within 14 days of purchase, and will issue a full refund for these items.
Goods must be returned to Backstitch, Burwash Manor, New Road, Barton, Cambridge, CB23 7EH, UK. Postage and packaging charges will not be refunded, nor will postage costs you have incurred for returning the items to us. We recommend that you receive proof of postage for your returned items as we cannot be responsible for items lost in transit.

A Note about Ordering Fabric
We make every effort to represent our products as accurately as possible, however colours appear differently dependent on individual screen settings so we can never make colours completely accurate. If you are unsure about a fabric we are more than happy to send you a small sample before you purchase.
We are careful about how we cut our fabric and endeavour to cut with the print and weave of the fabric where possible. However please be aware that fabric can distort as it is wound onto the bolt making a straight cut sometimes impossible. Fabric will also shrink with first laundering. Please be mindful of these facts when ordering your fabric and ensure you order enough to complete your project comfortably.
