Mile End Jumper Closet Core Patterns: Fluffy Jumper of Dreams. Pattern Review
There’s a story with this jumper… but hey, there’s a story with most makes isn’t there?! The story comes at the end mind, so you’ll have to read all the way through!
This fabric is SUPER soft and snuggly. I had to make a jumper out of it straight away. We have it in an antique pink as well as this sand colour. It pairs really nicely with our Marl Cuff Rib in Biscuit. I’ve always loved the look of the Mile End Sweatshirt from Closet Core. It has some interesting options and features, although this is Version A which is the basic sweatshirt, and many of the nice features you can’t really see because of the fluffiness of the fur. The nice, albeit invisible, features on this version are: a couple of cute darts on the sleeves; a back yoke; and angled side/front seam that carries through onto the hem band.
I love the shape. It is slightly cropped on both the body length and the sleeve length which gives it a cool short boxy vibe.
The Mile End was a super quick make. There aren’t masses of pieces, and I was able to sew the whole thing on the overlocker (win) so it came together really quickly too. The fur is a bit messy to cut as you get a certain amount of fluff released as you cut, but the fur also hides a multitude of sins on neatness as it blurs all your edges! I also didn’t bother with any top stitching so that saves time and bother.
My son has demanded that I make him a fluffy jumper now and whenever I wear this I get way more cuddles from him which is a bonus. I am already making another version of the Mile End in regular sweatshirting so it’ll be interesting to see how much difference that makes to the shaping and topstitching detail.
So, the story… I was wearing this in the shop a few days before we were due to take these pictures (dangerous to wear a garment before taking pictures I know.) It was the end of the day and I was labelling up some bolts of new fabric with a black sharpie when the sharpie jumped out of my hand and I juggled it like a hot potato, managing to catch the pen again but not before it had drawn a big black permanent stripe down the middle of my new jumper. Argh! Disaster! I was very sad and was planning to applique a square of the cuff fabric on the front which I was thinking would look like a Tellytubby but I was up for the look to make the jumper wearable again. On the morning of these photos Jen and I had a chat about it and we realised that using nail varnish remover on the pen mark was worth a try, and guess what?! It worked!! Huzzah!
My parting message? Everybody needs more cuddles so therefore everyone needs one of these fluffy jumpers.
