Ambassador Post: Abigail’s Seersucker Mix and Match Closet Core Carolyn Pyjamas
In our second ambassador post Abigail has made this most incredible pyjama set. If this doesn’t get you racing to our seersucker aisle and dreaming of contrast piping, then I’m not sure what will. So, over to Abigail:
I loved sewing the seer sucker and it’s made such comfy pyjamas… they are a lovely loose but neat fit. They are so comfy I don’t want to take them off and it’s making getting dressing in the morning even more of a chore!
I made a size 12 even though I measured a 14 on the bust. I am breastfeeding and anticipate soon to measure less on the bust so wanted to make a garment that will fit me well long term. I checked the ease of the 12 just finished measurements and decided it would be okay. The size 12 top fits great lots of ease so I’m pleased I sized down there as a 14 would have been too big.
I had 4metres of fabric and pattern asked for 2.5metres so lots to play with! Therefore I decided to make some mix and match pyjamas with two pairs of shorts and two different tops!
I made the view C shorts, one view B long sleeve top and one view C short sleeve top. Because I was making so many items there were LOTS of different pieces to cut, 34 in total!! So to avoid confusion I labelled all my pieces.
I loved this pattern and the instruction guidebook was really clear but I would have preferred it if the pattern was printed on thick paper as they are easier to handle - this was printed on tissue paper.
First I made the piping by cutting the binding in half lengthways and inserting in a cotton macrame cord I already had. Stitched it in to secure it.
I found the construction simple to follow on all steps except where the collar and lapel piping my results for that were inconsistent. You can see on one lapel the piping matches nicely and then on the other lapel there is a gap on the collar where the piping should have been.
I originally purchased some gorgeous olive wood buttons for this project but they were a bit of a harsh clash so I opted for covered buttons using the binding scraps. I’m really pleased with the combo of striped seersucker and floral trims.
Pattern: Closet Core Carolyn Pyjamas
Fabric: Striped Seersucker: Light Blue
Trim: Floral Cotton Bias Binding Blue Toile
Size: Abigail measures Bust 102cm, Hip 100cm, CB Length 60cm, Elastic Length 84cm. Abigail made the size 12.
Adjustments: I reduced F and B body length by 10cm at waistline. I reduced long sleeve length by 8cm.
Notes on construction: I didn’t top stitch the front lapel and collar as I preferred a cleaner finish. The buttonholes and hem and collar kept the facing in place.
Notes on future makes: Sew more with seer sucker!! I absolutely love this fabric, I love sewing it and know I will love wearing it. Seer sucker is the only fabric I know that looks better non ironed. Next I’m thinking either of doing an oversized seer sucker shirt and seersucker summer ruffle dress.
